Snow will develop across the far East Tennessee Mountains and
Mountains of Southwest Virginia from late Monday through Monday
night. Snowfall of 2 to 4 inches are expected across the Smoky
Mountains with amounts up to 5 inches over the highest elevations.
Across the rest of the higher terrain of southwest Virginia and
far east Tennessee, snowfall of 1 to 3 inches are anticipated.
Little to no accumulations are expected elsewhere.
Cold temperatures will remain across the Tennessee valley and
southern Appalachians through early this week. Wind chills will
drop into the single digits to near zero across the higher
elevations.
Slow down and use caution if traveling across the higher
elevations of the far east Tennessee mountains and southwest
Virginia late Monday and Monday night. Be prepared for the
possibilty of ice and snow covered roadways. If you plan on
traveling on Highway 441 please check with the Smoky Mountain
Park first.
