7 inches expected, with locally up to 9 inches possible especially
on the western-facing slopes above 2500 feet. Winds gusting as
high as 60 mph. Visibility one quarter mile or less.
* WHERE…In Maryland, Garrett County. In West Virginia, Western
Grant and Western Pendleton Counties.
* WHEN…Until 3 PM EST this afternoon.
* IMPACTS…Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel
treacherous and potentially life-threatening. Travel could be very
difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions will impact this
morning’s commute. Strong winds could cause damage to trees and
power lines resulting in power outages.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are
possible at times early this morning. Blowing snow may continue to
reduce visibility through this afternoon even after accumulating
snow ends. Additional light snowfall is likely tonight. Wind
chills will drop to near or below zero by this evening.
