USGS Scientist Donya Frank-Gilchrist Participates in Science Diplomacy Workshop
Dr. Donya Frank-Gilchrist of the USGS St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (SPCMSC) was invited to participate in a science and innovation diplomacy workshop, organized by the U.S. Global Change Research Program and the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research. The workshop was focused on Latin America and the Caribbean and approximately 30 persons participated from various countries across the region. The workshop included training on science and innovation diplomacy as well as interactive simulations based on relevant case studies. Several featured speakers were from the U.S. Department of State and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. The science and innovation diplomacy training included skills necessary for successfully implementing the Stakeholder Engagement for Natural Hazards Investigations in the Caribbean (SENHIC) project. SENHIC aims to improve our collective knowledge of regional-scale natural hazards in the Caribbean so that we can better mitigate their impacts through collaboration between U.S. territories and international countries in the region.
