HIGH-DENSITY, MILITARY STUDENT TRAINING BETWEEN MOBILE, AL AND PENSACOLA, FL

HIGH-DENSITY, MILITARY STUDENT TRAINING BETWEEN MOBILE, AL AND PENSACOLA, FL

6/8/16

Use caution for high-density, high-performance, military student training in the vicinity of NFD NOLF (Summerdale Navy Outlying Field), NBJ NOLF (Barin Navy Outlying Field), 5R4 (Foley Municipal Airport, Foley, Alabama), and JKA (Jack Edwards Airport, Gulf Shores, Alabama).  Summerdale Navy Outlying Field (NFD NOLF) re-opened on 3/9/16.

These four, uncontrolled airports all lie within a 7 NM radius, and are located halfway between Mobile, Alabama, and Pensacola, Florida.  This 7 NM radius is just west of the “inner ring” of the Pensacola Naval Air Station’s (NPA) Class C airspace.

Participating student aircraft include T1 (turbojet), T6 (single-engine, high-performance, fixed-wing), and Bell B06 (rotary-wing) traffic, that may or may not be in communication with ATC (Pensacola Approach Control).  Maneuvers include high-speed, high altitude descents out of 3000 feet and higher into these fields, plus practice approaches, pattern work, and general maneuvering, both VFR and IFR.

Additional complexity is the result of high-volume summer traffic, and “pop-up” coastal convective activity.  Also, constricted airspace due to the Pensacola South MOA (10,500 feet MSL to 23,000 feet MSL), Pensacola North MOA (10,500 feet MSL, up to, but not including, 18,000 feet MSL), R-2908 (Restricted Area), and other, high-density military student traffic areas.
