Southeasterly winds will quickly increase as a frontal system
approaches the area from the west. For Turnagain Arm and the Upper
Hillside of Anchorage, including Bear Valley and Upper Potter
Valley, expect sustained winds 25 to 40 mph with gusts 55 to 70
mph through early Monday evening. For Portage Valley, especially
along Portage Glacier Road, expect sustained winds of 20 to 35 mph
with gusts 45 to 60 mph.
There may be a brief decrease in the strength of the winds early
to mid morning Monday, especially along the Anchorage Hillside, as
the front stalls and an area of low pressure develops south of
the Kenai Peninsula. However a second peak in these strong winds
is then expected late Monday morning through Monday evening as
both the front and the low move north into Prince William Sound.
The winds will then diminish Monday night as the storm system
moves inland and weakens.
