Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • A cold front moving eastward will produce scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across the remainder of the Sunshine State today (65-95% chance of rain).
  • An isolated strong to locally severe thunderstorm is possible during the daytime heating hours, and the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has extended the Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for Severe Weather south of the I-4 corridor and along the Southwest Florida Coast.
  • Any stronger or more organized thunderstorm activity may be capable of producing locally damaging wind gusts (45-60 mph), lightning, and heavy downpours; an isolated, brief tornado cannot be ruled out.
  • Shower and thunderstorm activity will taper off from northwest to southeast through the afternoon hours, with statewide rain chances becoming near-zero this evening.
  • Wind gusts of 20-30 mph can be expected across North and Central Florida, with Wind Advisories in effect for the Emerald and Forgotten Coast this afternoon as wind gusts reach 35-40 mph.
  • Low temperatures near or at freezing return across North Florida and the Nature Coast tonight.
  • Breezy winds will cause temperatures to feel like they are below freezing across North Florida and in the middle to upper 30s along the Northeast Florida Coast and through Central Florida.
  • Frost Advisories have been issued across interior portions of the Suwannee Valley and far Northeast Florida as freezing temperatures and calming winds will result in frost formation overnight.
  • Dangerous beach and marine conditions can be expected to develop along all Florida beaches today, with elevated wave heights and a moderate to high risk of rip currents.
