…The Forest Service Sawtooth Avalanche Center in Ketchum Idaho
has issued a BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WARNING…
* WHAT…The avalanche danger is HIGH. The combination of heavy
snowfall and strong winds are overloading a weak snowpack.
* WHERE…The southern Salmon River Mountains, Sawtooths, White
Clouds, Smokys, Western Smokys, Boulders, Pioneers, and Soldiers
including the mountains above the Wood River Valley and near
Banner Summit, Atlanta, Stanley, Smiley Creek, Ketchum, Hailey,
Bellevue, Carey, Fairfield, Galena Summit, and Trail Creek
Summit.
* WHEN…In effect from Sat 06:00 MST to Sun 06:00 MST.
* IMPACTS…An intense storm bringing heavy snow and strong winds
will overload a very weak snowpack. Natural and human- triggered
avalanches large enough to bury people are almost certain to
occur. Some avalaches will be large enough to destroy a house.
