BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WATCH

IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED

10:00 MST Thu Dec 26 2024

The Gallatin NF Avalanche Center in Bozeman has issued a
BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WATCH for the following areas:

Madison and Gallatin Mountain Range Zone

* WHAT…Conditions are developing that will cause the avalanche
danger to rise to HIGH by tomorrow.

* WHERE…The Centennial Mountains near Island Park, Idaho; the
Lionhead area near West Yellowstone, MT; and the southern Madison
and southern Gallatin Mountain Ranges.

* WHEN…In effect from Thu 10:00 MST to Fri 05:00 MST.

* IMPACTS…Heavy snowfall is expected to overload pre-existing
weaknesses in the snowpack and create very dangerous avalanche
conditions.

* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…Avalanche conditions will
become very dangerous, and travel in avalanche terrain is not
recommended. Avoid traveling on or under slopes steeper than 30
degrees. As the storm progresses, avalanches may be triggered from
flat terrain underneath steeper slopes.

Consult http://www.mtavalanche.com or www.avalanche.org for more
detailed information.

Similar avalanche danger may exist at locations outside the
coverage area of this or any avalanche center.
