GALLATIN NATIONAL FOREST AVALANCHE CENTER.
…The Gallatin NF Avalanche Center in Bozeman has issued a
BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WATCH for the Lionhead Area, and the
Southern Madison and Southern Gallatin Mountain Ranges until 5 AM
MST Saturday…
* WHAT…Conditions are developing that will cause the avalanche
danger to rise to HIGH by Sunday.
* WHERE…The Lionhead area near West Yellowstone, MT; and the
southern Madison and southern Gallatin Mountain Ranges.
* WHEN…In effect from Friday 5 AM MST to Saturday 5 AM MST.
* IMPACTS…Heavy snowfall is expected to overload pre-existing
weaknesses in the snowpack and create very dangerous avalanche
conditions.
* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…Avalanche conditions will
become very dangerous, and travel in avalanche terrain is not
recommended. Avoid traveling on or under slopes steeper than 30
degrees. As the storm progresses, avalanches may be triggered
from flat terrain underneath steeper slopes.
