Rip Current Statement issued December 31 at 3:06PM ChST until January 1 at 4:00AM ChST by NWS Tiyan GU

* WHAT…For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 7 to 9
feet in the surf zone. For the High Rip Current Risk, dangerous rip
currents.

* WHERE…For the High Surf Advisory, north facing reefs of the
Marianas. For the High Rip Current Risk, north and east facing
reefs of Marianas.

* WHEN…For the High Surf Advisory, until 4 AM ChST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS…Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized
beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away
from shore into deeper water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Data from Ritidian buoy and surf observations
showed surf has reached hazardous conditions for north facing
reefs. Seas are expected to fall 1 to 2 feet tonight, with surf
expected to fall below hazardous levels late tonight.
