* WHAT…Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and
8 inches, with locally higher amounts from Keysers Ridge down
along the western face of Backbone Mountain. Winds gusting as high
as 50 mph.
* WHERE…In Maryland, Garrett County. In West Virginia, Western
Grant and Western Pendleton Counties.
* WHEN…From 1 AM Wednesday to 4 AM EST Thursday.
* IMPACTS…Brief whiteout conditions are possible with visibilities
dropping below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. The
strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines
and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very
difficult along the Interstate 68 and US-40 corridors west of Big
Savage Mountain as well as the US-48 corridor west of Moorefield,
WV. The hazardous conditions could impact holiday travel.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Rain will change to snow late tonight above
3,000 feet and by early Wednesday morning for the rest of the
warned area. Snowfall rates around 1 to 1.5 inches per hour are
possible at times through Wednesday evening especially in embedded
snow squalls that pass through.
