Strong winter storm to impact the region this weekend.
* WHAT…Freezing drizzle, snow, and blowing snow expected. Total
snow and sleet accumulations between 5 and 8 inches, with locally
higher amounts near a foot possible. Total ice accumulations up to
one tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
* WHERE…Portions of north central Kansas and south central
Nebraska.
* WHEN…From 9 AM Saturday to 6 PM CST Sunday.
* IMPACTS…Roads will likely become slick and hazardous.
Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing
snow.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Freezing drizzle is expected to develop
throughout the day on Saturday before mixing with and changing to
snow Saturday night. Near-blizzard conditions are possible late
Saturday night into Sunday morning, particularly along and south
of the state line, due to combination of heavy snow rates and
strong northerly wind gusts of 30 to 35 MPH. Snow and strong winds
will taper off from west to east Sunday afternoon and evening, but
very cold temperatures will persist into Monday.
