…ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL OVER SOUTHERN IOWA TONIGHT
THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING…
.A winter storm will arrive later today and bring accumulating
snowfall to southern Iowa from tonight through the day Sunday before
ending Sunday evening. The highest snowfall will fall near the
Missouri border in southwest and parts of south central Iowa. Very
dry air will be moving into Iowa from north to south with winds from
the north averaging 10 to 20 mph. This will cause a very sharp
gradient in snowfall amounts with lower amounts in the northern part
of a given county and higher amounts in the southern part of the
same county. Any shift in the predicted storm track will therefore
have significant impacts on forecast snowfall amounts, so continue
to monitor the forecast for the latest updates. Finally, the winds
will cause at least some minor blowing and drifting snow where the
new snow falls.
* WHAT…Heavy snow is expected. Total snow accumulations between 4
and 8 inches with a tight gradient in snow amounts. Winds gusting
as high as 35 mph which may produce blowing and drifting snow.
* WHERE…Appanoose, Wayne, and Davis Counties.
* WHEN…From 9 PM this evening to 3 AM CST Monday.
* IMPACTS…Travel could be very difficult.
