Winter Storm Warning issued January 4 at 3:31PM CST until January 5 at 3:00AM CST by NWS Hastings NE

* WHAT…For the Winter Storm Warning, freezing drizzle, some snow
and blowing/drifting snow expected. For the Blizzard Warning,
blizzard conditions expected due to moderate to at times heavy
snowfall rates and gusty winds. A light glaze of ice up to one
tenth of an inch is expected through this evening due to the
freezing precipitation, with a switch over to snow tonight through
the day on Sunday. Total snow accumulation between 9 and 14 inches
is expected. Winds shifting from easterly to northerly tonight,
and highest gusts around 35 MPH expected late tonight into the day
on Sunday.

* WHERE…Portions of north central Kansas and south central
Nebraska.

* WHEN…For the Winter Storm Warning, until 3 AM CST Sunday. For
the Blizzard Warning, from 3 AM to 6 PM CST Sunday.

* IMPACTS…Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Visibilities are likely to drop
below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Whiteout
conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and
potentially life-threatening. Travel could be very difficult to
impossible. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce
visibility.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…This is a complex storm system, with varying
precipitation types and impacts at varying times. Initially,
freezing drizzle will be the primary issue, with accumulating snow
and blowing snow taking over tonight into the day on Sunday, with
snow then gradually ending from northwest to southeast Sunday
afternoon and evening. Once snow ends, very cold temperatures and
wind chill readings as cold as -10 to -20 degrees will occur into
Monday morning.
