Meteorological Summary:
- Clear skies and near-zero rain chances can be expected across the Sunshine State today, courtesy of a dominant area of high pressure; temperatures will be slightly cooler in the wake of yesterday’s reinforcing cold front.
- Winds become breezy over Northwest Florida tonight, with coastal wind gusts reaching 15-20 mphahead of our next approaching weather system.
- Increasing cloud cover expected over the western Florida Panhandle tonight, with a slight chance for a shower or two possible (5-15% chance of rain) west of the US-231 corridor.
- Freeze Watches have been issued for the Suwannee River Valley tonight until 9:00 AM EST Sunday morning (1/5); Frost Advisories may be warranted through additional portions of North-Central.
- Low temperatures in the lower to middle 30s can be expected across the interior Florida Big Bend, Suwannee River Valley, and St. Johns River Valley; an upgrade to Freeze Warnings possible later today.
- Dry air continues to filter across Florida, with near or at critical relative humidity thresholds (lower to middle 20s)expected for many North, Central, and West Florida locations; however, the lack of windy conditions will keep the overall wildfire threat low.
- An elevated risk of rip currents returns to statewide beaches, with a high risk outlooked for the Palm Beaches and Southeast Florida.
