Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

Meteorological Summary:
  • Another cold start can be expected for many Sunshine State locations, with widespread frost and freeze conditions observed across North and Central Florida this morning.
  • Cloud cover increases slightly along the Treasure Coast, with an isolated chance for a light coastal shower or two (10-20%).
  • Clear skies and northerly winds tonight will allow for temperatures to plummet once again, with lows in the middle to upper 20s along the I-10 corridor and at or below freezing (29 to 32-degrees) from the Nature Coast to the First Coast.
  • Freeze Warnings have now been issued for interior Northeast Florida, the Suwannee River Valley, and Florida Big Bend from 1:00 AM EST (1/9) until 9:00 AM EST (1/9), with Freeze Watches outlooked along the northern Nature Coast through the early Thursday morning hours (1/9).
  • Additional Freeze Watches and Warnings will likely be issued later today, and could extend further west into some Florida Panhandle counties that drop below Hard Freeze
  • Temperatures will fall into the middle to upper 30s for many Central Florida and interior South Florida locations; however, temperatures will feel nearly 5 to 7-degrees colder than the actual temperature (below freezing).
  • Elevated northerly winds tonight will allow for temperatures to feel like the upper 10s to lower 20s throughout North Florida, leading to dangerous wind chills by Thursday morning.
  • Cold Weather Advisories will likely be issued for portions of North and Central Florida as warranted.
  • Sensitive to elevated wildfire conditions possible across interior North and Central Florida; critical relative humidity values (upper 20s to lower 30s) materialize this afternoon.
  • A moderate risk of rip currents can be expected for many Florida beaches today, localized high risk conditions reside along both the Southwest Florida Coast and Palm Beaches.
