Meteorological Summary:
  • An extremely cold morning unfolded across Florida, with wind chills earlier making temperatures 5 to 7-degrees colder than actual.
  • Abundant sunshine can be expected again today; however, another chilly and dry day is on tap for the Sunshine State. 
  • Northerly winds will continue to filter a very dry air mass statewide, with wind gusts of 10-15 mph possible during the daytime hours.
  • We turn our attention to an area of low pressure moving east along the Gulf Coast that will reintroduce rain chance (20-30%) and above freezing temperatures to Northwest Florida tonight.
  • Computer forecast models this morning suggest showers arrive to the western Florida Panhandle after 1:00 AM EST/12:00 AM CST tonight and will gradually spread eastward along the I-10 corridor Friday, setting the stage for a more active weather period Friday into Saturday.
  • To the east of our next weather system, another night of at or below freezing temperatures (upper 20s to lower 30s) is forecast for the inland Florida Big Bend and Suwannee River Valley; Freeze Warnings are in effect from 10:00 PM EST (1/9) until 9:00 AM EST (1/10).
  • Temperatures feeling like the middle to upper 30s can be expected well south of the I-4 corridor Friday morning.
  • Northerly winds will continue to filter a very dry airmassstatewide, with relative humidity values approaching and/or exceeding critical thresholds (lower to middle 20s) throughout interior North and Central Florida this afternoon; there is a low wildfire threat statewide, with locally sensitive to elevated wildfire concerns over interior North and Central Florida that have endured long-term dry soils/vegetation and drought.
  • An elevated risk of rip currents can be expected along statewide beaches, with a locally high risk of rip currents residing along Palm Beach County beaches.
