Rip Current Statement issued January 9 at 8:02PM AST until January 12 at 6:00PM AST by NWS San Juan PR

* WHAT…Life-threatening rip currents due to breaking waves up to
7 feet and occasionally higher, increasing at 8 to 12 feet
during the weekend.

* WHERE…Beaches of northern Puerto Rico, from Rincon to
Fajardo, including Culebra. Northern exposed beaches of St.
Thomas and St. John.

* WHEN…Through Sunday afternoon.

* IMPACTS…Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away
from shore into deeper water, where it becomes difficult to
return to safety.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Building seas, generated by pulses of
long- period northerly swells, will promote life-threatening
rip current conditions through the weekend.
