Coastal Flood Advisory issued January 11 at 8:59PM AST until January 12 at 6:00AM AST by NWS San Juan PR

* WHAT…For the Coastal Flood Advisory, minor coastal flooding.
For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves around 14-15
feet and occasionally higher. For the High Risk of Rip
Currents, life-threatening rip currents.

* WHERE…Beaches of northern Puerto Rico, from Rincon to
Fajardo. The most vulnerable areas for high surf and localized
beach erosion include Pinones along road 187, Parcelas Suarez,
Villas del Mar, and Villa Cristiana in Loiza; Fortuna in
Luquillo; Pueblo and Tamarindo in Aguadilla; Barrio Obrero,
Pueblo and Jarealito in Arecibo; La Boca in Barceloneta;
Machuca in Manati; Puerto Nuevo in Vega Baja; and Ocean Park
in San Juan.

* WHEN…For the Coastal Flood Advisory, through 6 AM AST Sunday.
For the High Surf Advisory, through 6 PM AST Sunday. For the
High Risk of Rip Currents, through late Sunday night.

* IMPACTS…Rip currents that can sweep even the best swimmers
away from shore into deeper water where it becomes difficult
to return to safety. High waves that can wash over jetties and
sweep people and pets onto jagged rocks. Rough surf may also
knock you down. Large breaking waves will result in localized
beach/dune structure erosion and dangerous swimming
conditions. Large breaking waves will result in some beach
erosion with only minor damage possible to dune structure.
Shallow flooding of vulnerable areas will result in limited
threat of property and structural damage near the waterfront
and shoreline, with a higher threat near the time of high
tide. Isolated road closures are possible.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…A long-period northerly swell continues to
spread across the local waters. Expect life-threatening rip
currents and dangerous swimming conditions, with localized beach
erosion possible through the weekend. The next high tides are
expected as follows: In San Juan, tomorrow at 8:17 AM AST at
1.75 ft; in Arecibo, tomorrow at 7:31 AM AST at 1.99 ft;
tomorrow in Aguadilla, at 7:24 AM AST at 1.50 ft; and in
Fajardo, at 7:52 AM AST at 1.68 ft.
