Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report for Sunday, January 12, 2025

Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • A frosty and chilly start this morning throughout North Florida and Nature Coast with Frost Advisories, Freeze Warnings and Cold Weather Advisories remaining in effect through the mid-morning hours.
  • High pressure over the Southeast U.S. will give way to mostly sunny and dry conditions across the state (near 0-5% chance of rain).
  • Drier air filtering southward will give way to sensitive wildfire conditions across Northeast Florida and throughout the Peninsula with relative humidity values falling near or below critical thresholds this afternoon (30-40%).
    • Locally elevated wildfire conditions cannot be ruled out over areas experiencing moderate drought conditions.
  • High pressure will nudge eastward later today and overnight ahead of the next frontal system developing off the Texas Coast and moving eastward over the Gulf waters.
  • Isolated to scattered showers will move onshore and inland overnight and early Monday morning across the Panhandle and Big Bend becoming more widespread as the system’s warm front lifts northward from the Gulf of Mexico (75-95% chance of rain).
    • Isolated rumbles of thunder may be possible over the coastal waters and near the coastline, but overall activity will be limited and severe weather is not expected.
  • Flash flooding is not expected; however, widespread rainfall over urban and low-lying/poor drainage areas may create instances of ponding of water or nuisance flooding along the Panhandle.
  • High temperatures will remain in the middle to upper 50s across North Florida, low to middle 60s across Central Florida and upper 60s to middle 70s across South Florida this afternoon.
  • Low temperatures will remain above freezing tonight keeping to the upper 30s to middle 40s across North Florida, upper 40s to low 50s across Central Florida and middle 50s to middle 60s across South Florida.
  • Lingering ocean swells and northerly winds will keep the high risk for rip currents in place across numerous Gulf and West Coast beaches. Lingering ocean swells will continue to create a moderate risk for rip currents along Space and Treasure Coast.
