Rip Current Statement issued January 18 at 3:14AM ChST until January 18 at 6:00PM ChST by NWS Tiyan GU

* WHAT…For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 7 to
9 feet in the surf zone. For the High Rip Current Risk, dangerous
rip currents.

* WHERE…For the High Surf Advisory, along north facing reefs of
the Marianas. For the High Risk of Rip Currents, along north and
east facing reefs of the Marianas.

* WHEN…For the High Surf Advisory, until 6 PM ChST this
evening. For the High Rip Current Risk, through this afternoon.

* IMPACTS…Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and
localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best
swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…The surf and rip current risk is on a
downward trend. North facing reefs are anticipated to drop
below criteria levels later today, while east facing reef’s risk
of rip currents may need to be extended.
