Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • Instances of patchy black ice are possible this morning along the Suwannee Valley and north of the I-10 corridor along Northeast Florida due to cold air moving over areas that were saturated from heavy rainfall.
    • Be cautious when driving over elevated surfaces, such as bridges, overpasses and ramps as slick conditions are possible through the mid-morning hours.
  • An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect along the far western Panhandle until midday for wind chill values in the single digits to low teens. Freeze Warnings also remain in effect along the Panhandle and Northeast Florida until the mid-morning hours.
  • A weak frontal boundary remains draped along the Keys bringing isolated to widely scattered showers across South Florida throughout the daytime hours (35-65% chance of rain).
    • Mostly dry conditions can be expected throughout North and Central Florida throughout the daytime hours as much colder and drier air surges southward behind yesterday’s cold front.
  • High temperatures today will struggle to reach above the 40s across North Florida likely only reaching the upper 30s to low 40s across the western Panhandle and low to middle 40s across the rest of North Florida.
    • With ongoing breezy winds, feels-like daytime temperatures will remain in the low to middle 30s across North Florida during the mid-afternoon hours. Cold Weather Advisories remain in effect until the midday to early afternoon hours across the I-10 corridor.
  • Shower activity will shift northward overnight towards Central Florida as the lingering frontal boundary also lifts northward creating isolated to scattered shower activity overnight (50-70% chance of rain).
  • The next system developing over the western Gulf of Mexico will bring upper-level moisture and an upper-level feature over the Big Bend overnight, which may allow for brief showers and possibly even a few snow flurries along the Big Bend coast; however, they may not reach the ground (10-20% chance of rain).
  • Dangerously cold temperatures can be expected again overnight will low temperatures falling into the middle to upper 20s across the Panhandle, low 30s along the I-10 corridor throughout the rest of North Florida and middle to upper 30s through the lower Suwannee Valley and Nature Coast.
    • Freeze Warnings will go into effect across portions of the Panhandle and Northeast Florida overnight for possible hard freeze conditions.
  • Dangerously cold wind chills/feel-like temperatures will fall into the single digits to middle teens across the far western Panhandle, teens to middle 20s for the rest of the Panhandle and Big Bend, upper 20s to low 30s throughout Northeast Florida and the Nature Coast.
    • An Extreme Cold Watch is in effect across the far western Panhandle until late Wednesday morning for dangerous wind chills as low as 5-degrees possible. This will likely be upgraded to an Extreme Cold Warning later today.
    • Cold Weather Advisories will go into effect overnight across North Florida for dangerously low wind chills overnight.
  • A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the far western Panhandle for increasing wintry precipitation beginning on Tuesday.
    • Winter Storm Watches extend across the I-10 corridor and will likely be upgraded to Warnings this afternoon for increasing wintry precipitation on Tuesday.
  • A moderate to high risk for rip currents extends across beaches nearly statewide.
  • River Flood Warnings are in effect for the North Fork Black Creek at Middleburg, Santa Fe River at Worthington Springs and at O’Leno State Park as minor riverine flooding is forecast over the next few days.
