…VERY STRONG WINDS AND SNOW MAY RESULT IN BLIZZARD CONDITIONS
TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY…
.An intense early Spring system is set to affect Iowa on Tuesday and
Wednesday. Rain will change to snow from northwest to southeast on
Tuesday night as very strong winds intensify from the northwest. The
combination of these winds and falling snow will cause significant
visibility reductions with a period of blizzard conditions possible.
Blowing and drifting snow with near whiteout conditions will make
travel hazardous. Conditions should gradually improve later
Wednesday as the snow ends and winds slowly subside.
* WHAT…Blizzard conditions possible. Total snow accumulations
between 2 and 5 inches expected with locally higher amounts will
be possible. The heaviest amounts are likely near the Minnesota
border. Strong northwest winds in excess of 60 mph may occur and
produce visibilities below one quarter of a mile with snow and
blowing snow.
* WHERE…Portions of central, north central, northeast, northwest,
south central, southwest, and west central Iowa.
* WHEN…From Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning.
* IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing
snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous
conditions could impact the Wednesday morning commute. Strong
winds could cause tree damage.
