As an area of heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms moves in from
the west early this morning, stronger wind gusts will arrive.
Occasional gusts of 40 to 50 mph can be expected over the
mountains of North Carolina and northeast Georgia, extending into
the western part of Upstate South Carolina and the northeast
Georgia Piedmont. At elevations above 3500 feet over the North
Carolina mountains, gusts of 55 to 65 mph can be expected.
The wind gusts may knock down some trees, tree limbs, and power
lines, resulting in scattered power outages. Driving across the
area in the dark will be dangerous. Watch for trees that have been
blown down across roads. The wind gusts may be strong through the
remainder of the pre-dawn hours.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect across most of the region, and a
High Wind Warning remains in effect at elevations above 3500 feet.
