Rip Current Statement issued March 14 at 3:25PM ChST until March 16 at 4:00PM ChST by NWS Tiyan GU

* WHAT…Large breaking waves of 9 to 14 feet and dangerous rip
currents.

* WHERE…North and east facing reefs of the Marianas.

* WHEN…Until 4 PM ChST Sunday.

* IMPACTS…Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized
beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away
from shore into deeper water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…A significant northeast well is generating
hazardous surf and a high risk of rip currents along north and east
facing reefs. Surf will likely fall below hazardous levels of 12
feet for east facing reefs around Saturday night, but will continue
to meet hazardous criteria of 9 feet for north facing reefs
through at least Sunday afternoon. The swell energy is expected to
gradually diminish over the next few days, allowing the high risk
of rip currents to decrease to moderate Sunday afternoon as well.
