Heavy rain may fall on a deep primed snowpack leading to the melt
increasing. Flows in rivers may increase quickly and reach critical
levels.
* WHAT…Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt is likely.
* WHERE…A portion of central New York, including the following
areas, Northern Oneida and Southern Oneida.
* WHEN…From Sunday morning through Monday evening.
* IMPACTS…Excessive runoff from a combination of rain and
significant snowmelt may result in flooding of rivers, creeks,
streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and
streams may rise out of their banks.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– 0.75-1.25 inches of rain is expected to fall Sunday. Very
warm temperatures this weekend will melt a significant
portion of the heavy snowpack across the Tug Hill region. The
snowmelt combined with rainfall and lingering ice in rivers
and streams will pose a significant risk for impactful
flooding. The highest concern is along the east and west
branches of Fish Creek, especially at the confluence and
downstream into Oneida Lake including Sylvan Beach. The east
and west branches of the Mohawk River, and downstream to
Delta Lake, is another area of higher concern.
