AVALANCHE WARNING
The Gallatin NF Avalanche Center in Bozeman has issued a
BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WARNING for the following areas:
NWS Pocatello ID – Fremont (Fremont County)
NWS Great Falls MT – MTZ330 (MTZ330)
* WHAT…The avalanche danger is HIGH and avalanche conditions
will become more dangerous with more snow and wind.
* WHERE…The Centennial Mountains near Island Park and the
Lionhead area near West Yellowstone.
* WHEN…In effect from Sun 19:30 MDT to Tue 06:00 MDT.
* IMPACTS…Heavy snowfall combined with very strong winds will
overload many slopes and avalanches will be crashing far
downhill.
* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…Avoid avalanche terrain
and runout zones, which are flat areas under big slopes where
avalanches run.
