Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • In the wake of very active weather, a dormant weather pattern is expected across the Sunshine State today.
  • Lingering showers and embedded thunderstorms continue to move off the Southeast Florida coastline this morning (20-30% chance of rain), with clearing skies anticipated by the afternoon hours as the cold front reaches the adjacent Atlantic waters.
  • Breezy northwesterly winds will funnel a cooler and drier airmass across the state, with sustained winds of 10-20 mph statewide. Moderate to strong wind gusts can be expected during the daytime hours, reaching 25-30 mph from the Florida Big Bend through the Florida Peninsula.
  • Dry air and breezy conditions will give way to elevated wildfire concerns throughout the Florida Peninsula; Red Flag Warnings will go into effect midday through 8:00 PM EDT this evening.
  • Critically low relative humidity (20s and 30s) will lead to elevated fire danger, especially for locations experiencing long-term drought and dry conditions.
  • While ample sunshine can be expected today, afternoon high temperatures will remain in the upper 60s across North and Central Florida and the lower to middle 70s throughout South Florida and the Florida Keys.
  • Clear skies tonight will allow for temperatures to drop into the lower 40s across North Florida, a few interior locations could see brief periods in the upper 30s. Elsewhere, 50s and 60s can be expected tonight into Tuesday morning.
