The combination of low relative humidity of 20 to 25 percent, wind
gusts peaking at 15 to 25 mph later today, and dry fuels will
create a risk of adverse fire behavior today over portions of
central North Carolina, primarily areas west of Highway 1. This
risk will be highest during the afternoon through early evening.
The North Carolina Forest Service has issued a statewide ban on
all open burning, and all burning permits have been cancelled
until further notice. Residents with questions can contact their
NC Forest Service county ranger or their county fire marshal’s
office.
