…AVALANCHE WATCH ISSUED BY THE FLATHEAD AVALANCHE CENTER…

13:00 MDT Sun Mar 23 2025
The Flathead Avalanche Center in Hungry Horse has issued a BACKCOUNTRY
AVALANCHE WATCH for the following areas:

NWS Missoula MT –
MTZ001 (MTZ001)…MTZ002 (MTZ002)

* WHAT…Heavy snow and strong winds, followed by rising temperatures and
rain, may create very dangerous avalanche conditions Sunday night and
Monday.

* WHERE…All elevations of the Whitefish, Swan, and Flathead Ranges, and the
Lake McDonald and Marias Pass areas of Glacier National Park.

* WHEN…In effect from Sun 13:00 MDT to Mon 13:00 MDT.

* IMPACTS…Below 6500 feet, rain on new snow may create wet snow avalanche
hazards. At upper elevations, new and drifted snow may create unstable slabs
of new and drifted snow. Wet snow and slab avalanches may release naturally
and will be easily triggered by a person.

* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…Very dangerous avalanche
conditions. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. Wet snow
avalanches may produce large, dense deposits of debris below roadcuts and
steep gully walls. Slab avalanches may run long distances and can run into
mature forests, valley floors, or flat terrain.

Consult http://www.flatheadavalanche.org/ or www.avalanche.org for more
detailed information.

Similar avalanche danger may exist at locations outside the coverage area of
this or any avalanche center.
