* WHAT…Multiple rounds of wet snow are expected through
Thursday, possibly mixing with rain or wet snow during the
afternoon hours. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 12 inches.
The heaviest amounts will be from Eielson AFB east and across
the higher elevations of the Chena Basin. Breezy conditions
will accompany snowfall Tuesday with southwest winds gusting
to 30 mph in the valley and up to 35 mph in the hills.
* WHERE…Fairbanks and surrounding area.
* WHEN…Until 10 AM AKDT Thursday.
* IMPACTS…Travel could be very difficult. Surfaces could
become very slippery. Ponding of water expected during
afternoon and evening hours later this week.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Heavier snow will arrive Monday night into
Tuesday when an additional 3 to 7 inches will fall. Snow will
taper off Tuesday evening before more snow arrives Wednesday,
tapering off Thursday. Rain mixing with snow is possible each
afternoon. Snow will be of the wet and heavy variety. Total snow
accumulations will be from 5 to 12 inches, though melting during
the afternoon hours will reduce the total amount of snow piled
up at any one time. Expect wet and slick roads with melting and
refreezing into the weekend.
