River forecasts are based on observed precipitation and forecast
precipitation for the next 24 hours.

* WHAT…Minor flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
This approaches the flood of record.

* WHERE…Kaskaskia River at Vandalia.

* WHEN…Until late Wednesday night.

* IMPACTS…At 26.0 feet, The Dively and Vandalia Levees begin to be
overtopped.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 11:00 AM CDT Saturday the stage was 19.7 feet.
– Recent Activity…The maximum river stage in the 24 hours
ending at 11:00 AM CDT Saturday was 19.7 feet.
– Forecast…The river is expected to rise to a crest of 26.5
feet tomorrow evening. It will then fall below flood stage
late Tuesday evening.
– Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
– Flood History…This crest compares to a previous crest of
26.5 feet on 05/18/1990.
