Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • Showers and thunderstorms associated with a cold front moving through the Peninsula will continue throughout the day before the cold front pushes offshore (45-65% chance of rain).
  • Additional showers and embedded thunderstorms could also develop with the sea breeze across portions of East-Central and Southeast Florida this afternoon and evening.
  • Organized severe weather is not expected; however, locally strong to severe thunderstorms cannot be ruled out during the peak heating hours of the day.
  • Locally heavy downpours across portions of Southeast Florida could allow for instances of localized flash flooding across urban and low-lying/poor drainage areas – Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) for Flash Flooding.
  • Behind the cold front, drier conditions will return from west to east and sunshine will eventually return across North Florida.
  • Despite calmer winds compared to the last couple of days, breezy wind gusts upwards of 15-20 mph will develop throughout the day.
  • High temperatures will reach the lower to middle 70s across North Florida, middle 70s across Central Florida and upper 70s to middle 80s across South Florida.
  • Showers and thunderstorms will generally continue through the evening and overnight hours across East-Central and Southeast Florida as the cold front pushes offshore and a surface low develops off the coastline (25-55% chance of rain).
  • Mostly calm conditions can be expected to elsewhere across the state overnight as cooler and drier air continues to filter in behind the cold front
  • Low temperatures will fall into the lower 40s to lower 50s across North Florida, upper 50s to lower 60s across Central Florida and 60s to lower 70s across South Florida.
  • Elevated surf of 2-4′ and lingering breezy winds will continue to create a moderate to high risk for rip currents across the state.
  • River Flood Warnings have been issued for the Escambia River near Century, Apalachicola River near Blountstown and Perdido River near Barrineau as water levels have risen or will rise into minor to moderate flood stage.
