.Behind a strong cold front early this morning, strong
northwesterly winds and dry air will push into the area. Northwest
winds will increase to 30-40 mph with gusts around 60 mph this
afternoon as minimum relative humidities drop to 15-20 percent.
The result will be critical fire weather conditions this afternoon
and early evening.
The National Weather Service in Rapid City has issued a Red Flag
Warning for gusty winds and low relative humidity, which is in
effect from noon MDT /1 PM CDT/ today to 7 PM MDT /8 PM CDT/ this
evening.
* AFFECTED AREA…Fire Weather Zones 326 Pine Ridge Area, 332
Badlands Area, 333 Bennett County Area, 334 Mellette and Todd
Counties and 335 Tripp County.
* WINDS…Northwest 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY…15 to 20 percent.
* IMPACTS…The combination of gusty winds and low relative
humidity would produce critical fire weather conditions.
