Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • Dry conditions and clear skies continue across the Sunshine State today under high pressure (near 0% chance of rain).
  • High temperatures in the upper 70s to upper 80s this afternoon with locally cooler temperatures in the middle to upper 70s along the East, Forgotten, and Emerald Coasts.
  • Light northeast winds this morning will gradually shift east into the afternoon, increasing to 10-15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph as the sea breezes develop and drift inland.
  • Elevated fire danger expected nearly statewide this afternoon and evening as dry air lowers relative humidity values to near 20-40%; Lighter winds will likely preclude Red Flag conditions.
  • Fires may spread quickly and behave erratically under these conditions.
  • Burn bans are in place for Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry, Highlands, Lake, Lee, Orange, Polk, Sarasota, and Volusia Counties.
  • Remember to avoid outdoor burning, keep vehicles off dry grass, and report fires to local authorities.
  • Moderate risk for rip currents along the East Coast and Florida Panhandle.
  • Extreme Drought has been introduced to portions of South Florida on this week’s Drought Monitor update.
  • Low temperatures in the middle 50s to low 60s across North Florida, 60s across Central and Southwest Florida, and middle 60s to middle 70s across Southeast Florida, the East Coast, and Keys overnight.
  • Areas of patchy fog possible along the Panhandle overnight into Friday morning.
