* WHAT…Due to recent large amounts of snowfall on an unstable
snowpack, combined with a large number of backcountry users,
dangerous avalanche conditions exist. The backcountry danger is
CONSIDERABLE.
* WHERE…For the mountains surrounding the Valdez and Thompson
Pass area.
* WHEN…In effect NOW through MONDAY 6:00 AM AKDT.
* IMPACTS…Very large human triggered avalanches are likely at upper
elevations. Clear weather will allow users to access areas
where dangerous avalanche conditions exist. Smaller human
triggered avalanches may be able to step down to deeper layers
in the snowpack creating very large avalanches.
* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…If you choose to travel
in avalanche terrain, conservative terrain choices are
recommended. Advanced route finding and assessment skills will
be necessary for safe travel in avalanche terrain.
Similar avalanche danger may exist outside the area specified.
