Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • Dense Fog Advisories will remain in effect across the Panhandle through the mid-morning hours due to reduced visibility as low as ¼ of a mile or less in dense fog.
  • Increased moisture will help shower and thunderstorm development along the sea breeze collisions this afternoon and evening across North and Central Florida, with the greatest chance over the Suwannee Valley and along the I-75 corridor (35-70% chance of rain).
    • Mostly dry conditions will continue across South Florida, but there is a chance for an isolated shower or rumble of thunder in the late afternoon hours (10-15% chance of rain).
  • Organized severe weather is not expected; however, a locally strong to severe thunderstorm or two cannot be ruled out during the peak heating hours of the day and may be capable of producing lightning, gusty winds (40-50 mph), small hail and locally heavy rainfall.
    • While flash flooding is not a main concern due to ongoing drought conditions, any slower-moving showers and thunderstorms over urban and poor drainage areas may lead to localized instances of ponding of water.
  • Despite increased rain chances, sensitive to elevated wildfire conditions will persist throughout the Big Bend and the interior Peninsula due to relative humidity values falling near critical thresholds and possible lightning strikes over dry vegetation and fuels.
  • High temperatures will reach the lower to middle 80s along the coastlines due to the sea breeze and upper 80s to lower 90s further inland.
  • Showers and thunderstorms will continue into the evening hours before weakening and dissipating or drifting offshore near the coastline.
  • An early-morning round of showers and embedded thunderstorms may redevelop along the Space Coast as the front drips further south (15-30% chance of rain).
  • Instances of fog will also be possible overnight and into Tuesday morning throughout North Florida and portions of Central Florida, especially where any rainfall occurred earlier in the day.
  • Low temperatures will fall into the 60s to middle 70s overnight throughout the state.
  • A moderate to high risk for rip currents persist along Panhandle and East Coast beaches.
    • Increased surf of 2-4′ can be expected along East Coast beaches through Atlantic-facing Keys by the afternoon hours.
