A strong frontal system moving north from the Gulf of Alaska will
bring locally heavy rain and snow showers Monday evening and
overnight into Tuesday. The Fairbanks area and west to Nenana and
Manley Hot Springs and east to Salcha can expect rain showers to
begin Monday evening after 6pm and transition to snow or a mix of
rain and snow overnight into Tuesday morning. Showers will taper
off by Tuesday morning before another brief round of rain showers
moves over the area Tuesday afternoon. Snow accumulations will be
just a dusting in localized areas in the valley, with up to 1
inch possible in the hills.
Further north in the White Mountains, a quick 3 to 4 inches of
snow will be possible overnight Monday into Tuesday morning. This
may make for difficult travel along the Elliott and Steese
Highways.
