As of 16:30 AKDT Wednesday, an approximate 30 mile run of ice was
moving downstream between Crooked Creek and Napaimute. The ice run
is medium-to-large disintegrating sheets intermixed with large
chunks, and moving at ~2 mph. Below Napaimute is open water until
near Chuathbaluk where intact ice at varying stages of strength and
decay extends all the way to Bethel.
Residence in Aniak and Crow Village should expect to see water
levels rise overnight as the upriver ice run meets the stronger
intact ice sheets downstream and water and ice push through Birch
Crossing and overtop the still ice-choked Aniak Slough. At this time
we are not expecting any flooding to occur.
The River Watch Team will fly early Thursday morning to assess river
conditions between Bethel and Crooked Creek. To share any local
observations, please email anchorage.weather@noaa.gov.
