Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • A more active weather pattern will develop along the Panhandle beginning today as a warm front lifts northward from the gulf waters bringing scattered showers and embedded thunderstorms later in the day (20-45% chance of rain).
  • Throughout the Peninsula, the typical sea breeze thunderstorm pattern will develop this afternoon and evening as the sea breeze boundaries collide with one another (25-60% chance of rain).
    • The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is outlooking a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for Severe Weather along the interior Peninsula from East-Central Florida through Southwest Florida for embedded strong to severe thunderstorms.
    • These strong to severe thunderstorms will be capable of producing frequent lightning, damaging wind gusts (50-60 mph), large hail (quarter-size) and heavy downpours. An embedded tornado or two cannot be ruled out.
  • High temperatures will climb into the 80s across the Panhandle and the middle 80s to lower 90s throughout the Peninsula.
    • Feels-like temperatures, or heat index values, will reach the lower to middle 90s across interior West-Central and Southwest Florida this afternoon.
  • Overnight and into the early morning hours, a complex of showers and thunderstorms will move into the western Panhandle bringing potentially locally heavy rainfall (30-55% chance of rain).
    • The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is outlooking a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for Severe Weather along the far western Panhandle as strong to severe thunderstorms will be capable of bringing lightning, gusty winds (40-55 mph), large hail (quarter-size) and heavy downpours.
    • The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) is also outlooking a Marginal to Slight Risk (level 12 of 4) for Flash Flooding along the western Panhandle for potentially heavy downpours that lead to localized flash flooding and ponding of water across urban and low-lying/poor drainage areas.
  • Throughout the Peninsula, shower and thunderstorm activity will move offshore and dissipate through the evening hours before mostly dry conditions return overnight.
  • Instances of patchy fog will be possible early Wednesday morning throughout the Peninsula for areas that received rainfall earlier in the day.
  • Low temperatures will fall into the 60s to lower 70s throughout much of the state overnight, with portions of the Southeast Florida coast and Florida Keys reaching the middle to upper 70s.
  • A moderate risk for rip currents continues along Panhandle and numerous East Coast beaches.
  • Hurricane Preparedness Week  (May 4-10, 2025): This week is Hurricane Preparedness Week from the National Weather Service (NWS). Each day will focus on a topic related to preparing for the upcoming 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which officially starts June 1.
