Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • Today will start to transition to a stormier pattern as an upper-level low digs southwards and develop over the Gulf, sending waves of scattered showers and thunderstorms across the state (45-85% chance of rain).
  • Additional showers and thunderstorms can be expected to develop with the sea breezes this afternoon and evening, primarily along the Peninsula.
  • Drier conditions will persist across South Florida as drier air lingers, allowing for only isolated shower activity with a few thunderstorms possible (10-30% chance of rain).
  • A few strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing frequent lightning, damaging wind gusts (40-60 mph), hail, an isolated tornado or two, and heavy downpours may be possible across North and Central Florida (Marginal to Slight Risk for Severe Weather – Level 1-2 of 5).
  • Heavy to torrential downpours may result in instances of flooding and ponding of water, especially over urban and low-lying/poor drainage areas in North and Central Florida (Marginal Risk for Flash Flooding – Level 1 of 4).
  • High temperatures in the upper 70s to middle 80s along the Florida Panhandle and middle 80s to low 90s along the Peninsula and Keys.
  • Heat indices approaching or reaching the middle to upper 90s across portions of the Peninsula.
  • Southwesterly to southeasterly winds near 5-15 mph with gusts near 10-20 mph
  • Moderate to high risk for rip currents along the Florida Panhandle; Moderate risk along the East Coast.
  • Low temperatures in the middle 60s along the Florida Panhandle and in the upper 60s to upper 70s across the rest of the state.
  • Areas of patchy to locally dense fog possible across North and Central Florida overnight into Saturday morning.
