Meteorological Summary:
  • The wet and active weather pattern will continue throughout the state today as the upper-level disturbance continues to push northward over the Southeast U.S.
  • Scattered showers and thunderstorms can be expected throughout the day, with more widespread activity across the Florida Peninsula due to a cold front associated with the disturbance (65-100% chance of rain).
  • Embedded strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible throughout the Big Bend and Florida Peninsula, especially during the peak heating hours of the day – Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for Severe Weather.
    • Damaging wind gusts (50-60 mph), an isolated tornado or two, instances of large hail and heavy downpours will all be possible within embedded strong to severe thunderstorms.
  • The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) is outlooking a Marginal to Slight Risk (level 12 of 4) for Flash Flooding from the Big Bend and throughout the Peninsula, with a Moderate Risk (level 3 of 4) for Flash Flooding across the Southeast Metro through today.
    • A Flood Watch has been introduced across South Florida as moderate to heavy rainfall through Tuesday morning could lead to flooding across urban and low-lying/poor drainage areas despite ongoing drought.
    • Widespread rainfall totals of 1-3″ will be possible across the state, with locally higher totals upwards of 4-8″ possible across East-Central and Southeast Florida where repeated rounds of heavy rainfall will be possible.
  • High temperatures will reach the upper 70s to lower 80s throughout the state with increased cloud cover and rain chances.
  • Drier conditions will begin to filter in behind the cold front throughout the overnight hours as it shifts offshore across South Florida, but lingering showers and thunderstorms will be possible (45-60% chance of rain).
  • Instances of fog will be possible early Tuesday morning throughout the Peninsula.
  • Low temperatures will fall into the middle to upper 60s across North Florida, upper 60s to lower 70s across Central Florida and lower to middle 70sa cross South Florida.
  • A high risk for rip currents can be expected nearly statewide, with a few beaches along the Nature Coast seeing a moderate risk, due to elevated surf and onshore winds.
