The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for…
Central Jefferson County in central Alabama…
Northwestern Shelby County in central Alabama…

* Until 930 AM CDT.

* At 706 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain
have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible
in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly.

HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE…Radar.

IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Alabaster, Bessemer, Homewood,
Pelham, Mountain Brook, Trussville, Helena, Hueytown, Gardendale,

Pleasant Grove and Clay.

Heavy rain, over a large area, has fallen in Saunders County, specifically around Prague and north of Malmo. The runoff from this rain will likely cause significant rises along Wahoo, Cottonwood, Duck, and Sand Creeks. It is possible the resulting flooding leads to water over several roads, including Highway 92 west of Wahoo and Highway 66 near Ithaca.
