Youngs Creek at Amity.

.Recent periods of heavy rainfall have led to flooding on Youngs
Creek at Amity.

* WHAT…Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.

* WHERE…Youngs Creek at Amity.

* WHEN…Until this evening.

* IMPACTS…At 7.0 feet, Youngs Creek at flood stage. Most low
areas along creek are flooded. Approaches to CR 400S bridge over
Youngs Creek begin to flood.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 8:15 AM EDT Wednesday the stage was 7.7 feet.
– Recent Activity…The maximum river stage in the 24 hours
ending at 8:15 AM EDT Wednesday was 8.2 feet.
– Forecast…The river is expected to fall below flood stage
this afternoon and continue falling and remain below flood
stage.
– Flood stage is 7.0 feet.

U.S. retail gasoline prices heading into Memorial Day weekend are at a four-year low

The retail price for regular-grade gasoline in the United States on May 19, the Monday before Memorial Day weekend, averaged $3.17 per gallon (gal), 11% (or 41 cents/gal) lower than the price a year ago. After adjusting for inflation (real terms), average U.S. retail gasoline prices going into Memorial Day weekend are 14% lower than last year, largely because crude oil prices have fallen.

U.S. hydropower generation expected to rise in 2025 following last year’s relative low

We expect U.S. hydropower generation will increase by 7.5% in 2025 but will remain 2.4% below the 10-year average in our May Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO). Hydropower generation in 2024 fell to 241 billion kilowatthours (BkWh), the lowest since at least 2010; in 2025, we expect generation will be 259.1 BkWh. This amount of generation would represent 6% of the electricity generation in the country.

For the following areas... S of Oregon Inlet NC to Cape Hatteras NC out to 20 nm... Waters from Oregon Inlet to Cape Hatteras NC from 20 to 40 nm... At 133 AM EDT, strong thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 26 nm east of Rodanthe to 11 nm northeast of Cape Hatteras, moving east at 45 knots. HAZARD...Wind gusts to nearly 50 knots. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. Strong thunderstorms will remain over mainly open waters.
