…RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT TODAY MAY 20 FOR CRITICAL FIRE
WEATHER…
A strong high pressure system over Ontario will bring an area of
very dry air to northern Minnesota, along with a tight pressure
gradient that will make for strong east winds. Relative humidity
may drop as low as 15 to 20%, with east winds of 15 to 25 mph,
with gusts as high as 40 mph. Across eastern portions of the Red
Flag Warning, a Wind Advisory is also in effect.
The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a Red Flag
Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect
from noon today to 9 PM CDT this evening. The Fire Weather Watch
is no longer in effect.
* AFFECTED AREA…In Minnesota, Koochiching, North St. Louis,
Northern Cook and Lake, North Itasca, Central St. Louis and
South Itasca.
* WINDS…East 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY…As low as 15 percent.
* IMPACTS…Any fires that ignite could spread rapidly and
become difficult to control. Outdoor burning is not
recommended.
