Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • A few pop-up showers and embedded thunderstorms have developed this morning along the western Panhandle and will likely continue to pop-up throughout the day.
  • Isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop around midday and throughout the rest of the daytime hours across North Florida (25-35% chance of rain).
  • typical sea breeze thunderstorm pattern will develop this afternoon bringing scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms throughout the Peninsula (45-75% chance of rain).
  • Plenty of daytime heating will allow for some of these thunderstorms to become strong to severe, mainly north of the I-10 corridor and throughout the Peninsula – Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for Severe Weather.
    • Strong to severe thunderstorms will be capable of producing frequent lightning, damaging wind gusts (50-60 mph), large hail (quarter to golf ball size) and locally heavy rainfall.
  • The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) is outlooking a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) for Flash Flooding along most of the I-95 corridor and extending into South Florida where  widespread heavy rainfall that leads to instances of flash flooding for urban and low-lying/poor drainage areas.
  • Warm conditions will continue statewide as temperatures reach the lower to middle 90s this afternoon.
    • Feels-like temperatures will warm up into the middle to upper 90s statewide, with interior portions of Central and Southwest Florida reaching the lower 100s by the early afternoon hours.
  • Shower and thunderstorm activity will continue throughout the evening hours before dissipating and moving offshore during the overnight hours.
    • There may be a chance for early morning showers and thunderstorms along the western Panhandle early Monday morning as a lingering thunderstorm complex moves through central and southern Alabama (15-25% chance of rain).
  • Instances of patchy fog may be possible early Monday morning throughout portions of the Panhandle and Big Bend.
  • A moderate risk of rip currents can be expected along Florida Panhandle and Atlantic beaches today, with a locally high risk for Palm Beach County.
