Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report

EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
  • Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms continue across the Florida Peninsula along and ahead of a late season “cold” front (70-90% chance of rain).
  • The interaction between the daily afternoon sea breeze and advancing front will promote strong to severe thunderstorm developmentthis afternoon.
  • The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is outlooking a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for Severe Weather across portions of Central and South Florida; strong wind gusts (45-60 mph), frequent lightning, and downpours possible.
  • Heavy rainfall rates will accompany the stronger thunderstorm activity; nuisance flooding and ponding water cannot be ruled out, especially for urban Southeast Florida corridors and low-lying/poor drainage areas.
  • Coastal South Florida locations approach triple digit heat indices prior to any rain relief this afternoon.
  • Sunny skies and near-zero rain chances return to North Florida today, with help from post-frontal northerly winds.
  • Rain chances return to the central Florida Peninsula before the Sunday sunrise once again tonight (30-60% chance of rain).
  • An elevated risk of rip currents can be expected along most Florida beaches today, localized high risk of rip currents outlooked for portions of Gulf County.
