Florida State Watch Office Morning Situation Report
EOC Activation Level: Level 2
EOC Activation Level: Level 2
Meteorological Summary:
- Scattered shower and thunderstorm development expected once again across the Sunshine State, courtesy of the typical summertime pattern.
- Showers and thunderstorms initialize along the coastal sea breeze, increasing in coverage along the East Coast (25-35% chance of rain); any thunderstorm could be strong to locally severe.
- The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is outlooking a Marginal Risk for Severe Weather (level 1 of 5) along and north of the I-10 corridor as ingredients are slightly more supportive for strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon.
- The primary concerns will be locally damaging wind gusts (45-60 mph), frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall rates.
- Nuisance flooding and ponding water of urban and low-lying/poor drainage areas will be possible this afternoon, especially given recent soil saturation with the summertime pattern.
- Warm temperatures and muggy conditions develop this afternoon, with triple digit heat index values (99 to 105-degrees).
- Lingering moisture, calming winds, and warm overnight temperatures will promote areas of fog and low clouds to develop over North Florida and localized pockets of interior Florida.
- A moderate to high risk of rip currents continues for Florida Panhandle beaches, with moderate risk conditions persisting along Space and Treasure Coasts.
- There is no tropical development expected over the next 7 days in the Atlantic basin.
