ESFRIW Low elevation snowpack of around 2 to 8 inches exists across much of the northern portion of the Bighorn Basin including mountain foothills. This snowpack contains an estimated 1 to 3 inches of Snow Water Equivalent (SWE). Temperatures are expected to be in mid-30s to around 40 degrees Monday through Wednesday. Warmer temperatures occur Thursday through Sunday (Feb 27 - Mar 2). The upcoming warm temperatures, combined with the low elevation snowpack, could result in melting and injection into local rivers and streams. Recent dryness and above normal temperatures have led to below normal fuel moisture with ERC values above average (75-90th percentiles) for late December. The most severe conditions will exist across mountain ridges and east slopes, where west winds 20 to 30 mph will combine with relative humidity 10-15% to generate hazardous fire weather conditions. There is a potential for hazardous commuting conditions for the Thursday morning commute. A period of snow showers or squalls is POSSIBLE (a 50 percent chance) Thursday morning across the far northwest suburbs of Baltimore / Washington, especially over higher elevations such as Parr's Ridge and the Catoctin Mountains where up to around an inch of snow accumulation is possible on area roads.
