Also, there is a chance of thunderstorms that could produce lightning. * WHERE...San Diego County Coastal Areas and Orange County Coastal Areas. * WHEN...Surf hazards through this afternoon. Chance of lightning this afternoon through tonight. * IMPACTS...Strong rip currents will create hazardous swimming conditions. Lightning is possible in the vicinity of any thunderstorms.

At 136 AM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts was located 8 nm south of Monitor Marine Sanctuary, moving northeast at 45 knots. HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts 34 knots or greater. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. Locations impacted include... Diamond Shoals and Monitor Marine Sanctuary.
